Derrick started his career in the civil service, focusing on manpower related policies and research. As a public servant, Derrick was part of a core team that was tasked by the Ministry of Manpower to form a Statutory Board – the Singapore Workforce Development Agency – to develop schemes and policies to ensure that Singapore’s core workforce was ready to thrive in the country’s competitive and open economy. He was recognized for being the Board’s top 10 employees in 2003. Derrick subsequently left the service to join PSB Corporation, to lead international business development and subsidiary management.
At PSB Corporation / PSB Academy, Derrick worked with the Senior Management on acquisition, divestment, partnership and corporate learning opportunities. Part of the work took him to China and Indonesia where he spent about 3 years helming the Academy’s local operations. Subsequent postings and opportunities took him across the different function of PSB Academy. He took on the role of Chief Operating Officer in April 2013, and was promoted to Acting Chief Executive Officer in September 2016.
Derrick completed his Bachelor’s Degree under a National University of Singapore-University of British Columbia partnership. He subsequently undertook research in Behavioural Economics in his Honours and Masters’ Degrees.
